Abstract: This article provides a comprehensive analysis of Russia – China economic relations from 2020 to 2024, focusing on the driving forces, challenges, and development prospects. Through the examination of statistical data, policy analysis, and assessments by international research organizations, it is evident that Russia – China economic ties have undergone profound transformations amid a shifting global geopolitical landscape. Notably, there has been a significant increase in trade and energy cooperation, with bilateral trade volumes reaching record highs. However, the relationship also faces numerous challenges, including imbalances in trade structure, limitations in high-tech cooperation, and pressures arising from Western sanctions. Of particular note is the dual role of the United States, which both promotes and constrains the development of these bilateral ties. Based on the analysis, the study proposes three development scenarios of this relationship for the 2025-2030 period, identifying the cautious scenario as the most probable. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the dynamics and trends in Russia – China economic relations and provide a reference for Vietnam’s policy planning regarding the U.S. – Russia – China strategic triangle. This article is part of the ministerial-level science and technology project titled “The U.S. Factor in Russia – China Relations from 2014 to the Present”.
